Inktober (Day 7)…

I’ve decided to do Inktober this month. 😀  Find out more about Inktober, here. Basically it’s a month long encouragement to draw every day.

Today I decided to incorporate both the official prompt list and the zentangle prompt list.

Today’s prompts are Shy and Rixty

Closeup…

I had a bit of a hard time coming up with something for the prompt Shy, to be honest my brain just kept singing Too Shy by Kajagoogoo.  I finally decided to just sit down and play with the zentangle pattern Rixty and see where it took me.  First I drew a wavy line in pencil (my string) that kind of looked like an ‘S’, I briefly thought about writing the word ‘shy’… but abandoned the idea pretty quickly.  Then I thought about playing with color and how I was being ‘shy’ with color so far in the Inktober Challenge.  Then I thought of NOT being ‘shy’ about experimenting, hence I used the liquid watercolor as my ink for the fountain pen nib.

What I ended up with made me think of the back of a dragon against a blue sky… perhaps this is a ‘shy’ dragon? that’s why you don’t see his face… I liked it simple this time, as I’ve been doing some rather complicated shading the last few days… it felt ‘done’ at this stage…

I liked the idea of using watercolor as ink, but as you can see it feathered, so I probably won’t do it again, at least not on this type of paper.

Tools Used:

  • Saedtler Mars Lumograph pencil (4H)
  • Ecoline Liquid Watercolor (blue, green)
  • Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Pen Nibs
  • Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Nib Holder

For my husband’s morning tea, I practiced Rixty

Until next time…
