Hey guys!
On Friday before our Zentangle class we were talking about Zen flow in other areas of our life. The teacher has a friend that gets Zen flow from exercising, a couple of students in the class showed off their afghans that they knitted or crocheted. I typed in the chat that I get Zen flow from macro photography. And one of my classmates chatted back to me directly her too. And we discussed cameras and lenses for a bit, and then class started.
But it got me thinking about the last time I really was able to do any macro photography. I started drawing more and photographing less when Scarlett got sick. And then when we adopted Duke and Penny I had my hands full, so going out and taking photos like I used to do hasn’t really been a thing I could do easily. So it’s been 5-6 years since I did serious walk around taking photos like I did when I started this blog (back in June 2013, wow).
All this to say, I decided to try to implement “Photography Sundays”. My wonderful husband was once again my wingman and had Duke and Penny, as well as my back – being my eyes and ears so that I can zone out and concentrate on what I’m photographing. And guys… guys… squeeeee!!!!! A hummingbird stopped by and posed for me!!!! OMG! It was soooo awesome!!!
Ok, so yesterday I had to drop off a return at a UPS box and I said, oh hey it’s Purple Season again, pointing out some purple cone flowers. Today, we headed towards those purple cone flowers with my favorite 180mm macro lens. We discussed how this was a refresher on how it all works again, I joked that we’d be right back because my battery would die… then quickly looked at my battery to find that yes, it was blinking and needed to be replaced. Haha very funny Universe. I swapped out my battery, hoping it would keep a charge for the photoshoot. Then we headed out…
I started trying to look for the little things we don’t normally notice [click on photos to enlarge]…
Hmm… did you know clovers bloomed? I guess I did, but didn’t really think about it…
Oh I just love purple fountain grass…
Ooo a bee…
Then I arrived at the purple cone flower and decided to continue taking photos of bees…
Then it happened, a hummingbird was in my view…
Trying to be very still and quiet I continued taking photos of the hummingbird…
Oh no! Where did it go?!
whew! there you are…
Then it flew away.
It was sooo awesome! I teared up with delight. I love photography. It was such a great morning. I was floating on a cloud. Yep, zen flow. I was able to get 7 hummingbird photos.
Penny sensed my happiness and started trying to wrestle with Duke, aka WWE. We had to separate them and get her to calm down, silly girl. Then we headed back home.
Stay safe everyone! And wash your hands! 🙂
Until next time…
