Light and Shadow, A Comparative Study…

Rather than apologizing yet again for not posting as often as I would like, I’m just going to hope that you all realize the weird roller coaster year I’ve had … and instead, we’ll just jump into today’s post. 😀

I’ve been taking some time for myself lately, I purchased a subscription to the Society of Visual Storytelling (SVS, for short) for just $25/month I have access to over 80 art class videos… I’ve been really enjoying them and learning a lot. I came across SVS when I did Inktober and purchased the Inktober kit (which included several inking tools and a drawing notebook). The Inktober kit also included a video ‘How to Ink’ by Jake Parker (the creator of Inktober). That video encouraged me to look at SVS more closely and a few months later I think my art knowledge has really improved.

I wanted to start applying some of my new knowledge of light and shadow to a zentangle… and I wanted to do it both traditionally and digitally… enjoy 🙂

Traditionally…

Here is the art before the shading…

Digitally…

For the digital version I brought my image up in GIMP and used threshold to make it look more graphic, here is the before of that art…

Until next time…
