Stripes (DC #316) & Scallamp (DC #314)…

This week’s Diva Challenge (DC #316) is stripes… create your string using stripes and then fill it in with whatever tangles you want.

I started creating my string and ended up with this…

Then I searched TanglePatterns.com for ‘Ribbon’ tangles that caught my eye.  The interesting thing here is that this looks like how my brain was feeling the last few days… crazy.  We found a leak under the kitchen sink and after the inspector stopped by, our apartment complex is relocating us to a hotel for up to two weeks!  Basically they are going to crack open a section of my kitchen, remediate it, then remove the affected parts and rebuild sections of my kitchen.  Ugh!  The next few days we are packing up parts of the kitchen and figuring out what we will need for two weeks.  Needless to say things are a little bit stressed right now.  It feels so weird to have to leave your house for an extended period of time.  It’s not like going on vacation because knowing that someone is demolishing your kitchen while you are away is unnerving.  Anyway, I feel this tile represents my current state of mind, ha ha…

Earlier in the week I played around with Scallamp, having missed the challenge a few weeks ago (DC #314).  The first one I did I didn’t like where it was going, but I really liked the scallamp that I did, so I set it aside and started over.  I really liked the second one…

Second attempt at Scallamp tile. Scallamp, Paradox, Ruutz, Tipple

After a few days I came back to the first one and came at it from a new perspective and I think it turned out pretty good in the end.  Earlier that morning I had remembered Hamadox and I drew it on my husband’s mug… once I incorporated Hamadox and Nekton on the first tile, I felt it worked out better.

First Scallamp tile. Scallamp, Noom, Praa, Hamadox, Nekton

I really tried to stick with the idea that there are ‘no mistakes’ in Zentangle and kept working on the tile (even if it was days later) to get past the ugly stage that all art seems to go through and in the end come up with three interesting tiles. 😀

And as is becoming a thing with me, some mug drawings for the week…

Hope you are having a good week.  I’m not sure how often I’ll be posting in the next two weeks, given that internet in a hotel tends to be slow, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Until next time…

    • Thanks, Kate! 😀 The mug started out as a silly thing I did once, and then suddenly I found myself missing it if I didn’t tangle on it in the morning. 😀 I use water-erase markers on glass, so at the end of the day it is washed off.

  1. Your work is beautiful, I love all of it. Success with this ‘kitchen’ thing. Must be indeed very different then a vacation.

Kind thoughts and comments are always welcome...
