This week I tried to make my image look as though it was taken at night under the moonlight. I went through several iterations and this one is the one I liked the best…

Moonlight
Kind thoughts and comments are welcome!
I have joined a month-long photo post-processing challenge called One Four Challenge, hosted by Robyn at Captivate Me. “This challenge is about processing 1 image in 4 different ways over 4 weeks.” Every Monday Robyn posts a new version of her photo and challenges us to do the same each week.
For some reason the poll is now going to a different page rather than showing up here. So click on the link below to take the poll.
This week I tried to keep my image manipulation down to a minimum… but unfortunately it took a bit to get the look I was going for, so if you’d like to see a tutorial on what I did come back tomorrow.
EDIT: You can find the GIMP tutorial here.
Until next time…

Nic, great job this week – well every week 😜
This week’s image totally looks like a moonlit shot!
As a standalone image I voted for week 1.
Just want to say another thank you too for the effort you put into the tutorials 😃
Thanks so much, Robyn! It is such a fun challenge! I need to figure out what I’m going to do for February! 😀
Thanks Nic – good luck choosing and will look forward to it! 😀
Interesting to see the changes this photo has gone through each week .. I really enjoyed this last one .. so I vote for Moonlight!
Thanks, Bastet! I think many people are voting for that one. 😀 It’s funny how week 4 makes you try something really out there and then people like it best.
I am going for Finger Paint as the best one. I could imagine lying on my bed looking up at this image on a poster on the wall. Love it.
Oh Thank you, Forest Wood Folkart! I think I’m going to have to print that one out on Fine Art Paper (kinda like watercolor paper) and see how it renders. If it looks good, I might have to offer it in my store. 😀 Thanks for the idea!
Good luck with that initiative. I would think it would sell well.
Thanks! 😀
Nic I totally see the moonlight effect, nice job 🙂
Thanks, Stacey! You know when I was working on this image I wasn’t really sure it was going to work out, but so many of you see my vision, it’s awesome. 😀
Nik colour Efex has a great midnight preset that might be interesting to try
I went looking for Nik products a little while back (online) and it seemed like they were no longer available from retailers. I looked at Amazon, Adorama, and B&H Photo (which only had something by Nikon and I didn’t think it was the right thing)… I got the impression that it wasn’t available anymore now that it has been bought out by Google.
Yes Google bought them a couple of years ago, as far as I was aware it’s still available, was $149 for the whole suite, much cheaper! Only reason I could afford.

Looks like still around 😉
Yes, I found that page too. But it appears that you can only buy it with your Google account? At least you cannot see any prices until you login it seems. I’ll have to look into it further.
I have a Google account already so didn’t have that problem
After a month of different edits the last is my fav, it really has the quality of a moon lit scene. I tip my hat to you.
Wow, Thanks, Ben! 😀
Week 4 is my favorite, it has a very natural quality, almost like you’ve done no editing.
Wow, thank you Snow’s Fissures & Fractures! I feel like I did quite a bit to make it look like this, of course that’s probably because I tend to do several versions of an idea and then pick my favorite. But thank you so much, that is quite a compliment! 😀
I for one like the moonlight one, it seems the most magical and eye catching.
Thanks Thomas! Wow that was a quick response too, I just hit publish! 😀
Haha I just looked at a bunch of random blogs, and your grabbed my attention.
